METHOD

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2

In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth.

Step 3

Stir in molasses and eggs until fully blended.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, mix flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt.

Step 5

Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until dough forms.

Step 6

Divide the dough into manageable portions and roll out on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.

Step 7

Use your gingerbread house template to cut out pieces. Cut out front, back, roof, and side pieces accordingly.

Step 8

Place the cut-out shapes on parchment-lined baking sheets, leaving space between each piece.

Step 9

Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until firm and slightly darkened around the edges.

Step 10

While the pieces are baking, prepare royal icing as per package or homemade recipe instructions.

Step 11

Allow gingerbread to cool completely before assembling to prevent breakage.

Step 12

Once cooled, use the royal icing as 'glue' to assemble the walls first. Allow it to set slightly before adding the roof.

Step 13

Once your house is structurally sound, use the remaining icing to decorate and affix candies.

Step 14

Let your creative juices flow! Add as many features as you like—snowy roofs, candy canes, and gummy pathways. Let your imagination decorate this delightful house of sweets.

Step 15

Allow the icing to dry and set completely before moving or displaying your gingerbread house.
