METHOD

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage and blanch the whole head in the boiling water for 2-3 minutes until the leaves are soft and pliable. Remove and cool the leaves.

Step 3

In a skillet, sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until fragrant. Allow to cool.

Step 4

In a bowl, mix together the ground beef, cooked rice, sautéed onion and garlic, egg, salt, pepper, and paprika until well combined.

Step 5

Lay a cabbage leaf on a flat surface and place a generous spoonful of the meat mixture at the base of the leaf, folding in the sides, then rolling it up tightly.

Step 6

Repeat this process with the remaining leaves and filling.

Step 7

Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce on the bottom of a baking dish. Place the cabbage rolls seam-side down in the dish. Top with the remaining tomato sauce, covering all the rolls well.

Step 8

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour, then uncover for an additional 15 minutes to brown the top.
