METHOD

Step 1

In a large bowl, mix together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 package of instant yeast, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of salt.

Gradually add 1 cup of warm milk and 1/4 cup of warm water to the dry ingredients, stirring until a sticky dough forms.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in an oiled bowl and cover with a damp cloth.

Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Punch down the dough and divide it into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and flatten into a disc about 1/2 inch thick.

Heat 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Fry each disc of dough in the oil for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.

For garlic butter, mince 2 garlic cloves and mix with 1/4 cup melted butter. Brush the garlic butter over each fried bread.
