METHOD

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

Step 2

In a large bowl, mix together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 3/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder, 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of salt.

Step 3

Add 2 cups of granulated sugar, 2 eggs, 1 cup of milk, 1/2 cup of vegetable oil, and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.

Step 4

Stir in 1 cup of boiling water. Batter will be thin. Pour it evenly into the prepared cake pans.

Step 5

Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from the pans to wire racks to cool completely.

Step 6

Once the cakes are cooled, spread whipped cream between the layers and over the top of the cake.

Step 7

Cover the entire exterior of the cake with a thick layer of chocolate frosting.

Step 8

Break the Kit-Kat bars apart and place them vertically around the cake, pressing gently to adhere to the frosting. Tie a ribbon around the outside for a festive touch.

Step 9

Refrigerate the cake for at least 30 minutes before serving to let the flavors meld.
