METHOD

Step 1

In a small saucepan, warm the milk over low heat until it feels warm to the touch. Do not let it boil.

Step 2

In a large bowl, combine 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar with the yeast and warm milk. Let the mixture sit for about 5 minutes or until it becomes frothy.

Step 3

Add the melted butter, eggs, and remaining sugar to the yeast mixture. Mix until combined.

Gradually stir in the all-purpose flour and salt until a soft dough forms.

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Place in a bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

For the filling, mix brown sugar and ground cinnamon in a small bowl. Roll the risen dough into a rectangle and spread softened butter over it. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the buttered dough.

Starting with the longer side, roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into 12 even rolls.

Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.

While the rolls bake, prepare the icing by beating together softened cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until creamy.
