METHOD

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine 4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup of granulated sugar, 1 package of instant yeast (about 2 1/4 teaspoons), and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.

Step 2

In a small saucepan, warm 1/2 cup of milk and 2 tablespoons of butter until the butter is melted. Make sure the mixture is warm but not hot.

Step 3

Add the milk mixture to the dry ingredients along with 1/2 cup of pumpkin puree and 1 egg. Mix to form a soft dough.

Step 4

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 6-8 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Step 5

In a small bowl, mix 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon, 1 teaspoon of ground nutmeg, and 1 teaspoon of ground ginger.

Roll the dough into a 16x12 inch rectangle. Spread 4 tablespoons of softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle evenly with the sugar and spice mixture.

Starting with one long side, tightly roll up the dough and pinch the seam to seal.

Cut the roll into 12 slices, and place them in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Cover and let rise again for about 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

While the rolls are baking, prepare the cream cheese frosting. In a mixer, beat together 4 ounces of softened cream cheese, 1/4 cup of softened butter, 1 cup of powdered sugar, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth.
