METHOD

Step 1

Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large oven-safe skillet over medium heat.

Step 2

Add the sliced apples, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg. Stir to combine and cook for about 10-12 minutes or until the apples are tender and caramelized.

Step 3

Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and remove from heat.

Step 4

Unroll the pre-made pie crust and gently lay it over the top of the apples in the skillet. Tuck in the edges around the apples.

Step 5

Cut a few slits in the pie crust to allow steam to escape.

Step 6

Brush the crust with beaten egg and sprinkle 1 tablespoon of sugar on top for a golden finish.

Step 7

Transfer the skillet to a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.

Step 8

Remove from oven and let it cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Step 9

Serve warm, optionally topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
