METHOD

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large bowl, mix together 6 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon ground ginger, 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon, 1 teaspoon ground cloves, 1 tablespoon baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.

Step 3

In a separate bowl, cream 1 cup of unsalted butter with 1 cup of brown sugar until light and fluffy.

Step 4

Add 1 cup of molasses and 2 large eggs to the butter mixture, and mix until well combined.

Step 5

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.

Step 6

Divide the dough into manageable portions, roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness.

Step 7

Using gingerbread house templates, cut out various shapes for the walls and roof of the house.

Step 8

Transfer the shapes to the prepared baking sheets and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the edges are slightly brown. Let them cool completely.

Step 9

Assemble the pieces using thick royal icing as 'mortar'. Start with the walls, and once they are stable, put on the roof.

Step 10

Allow the structure to set for a few hours or overnight until completely dry and sturdy.

Step 11

Once the house is stable, use the remaining royal icing to attach assorted candies for decoration. Let the creativity flow!
